I can't seem to shake my ocean fixation, and as a well known desert lover I am surprised. I had hypnotherapy for a while in 2000/2001. I know some Christians, and many others are sceptical about hypnotherapy - but it was wonderful and pulled me through a terrible time. Anyway, one of the exercises involved walking down a stair case and imagining a special place. I was convinced mine would involve red dirt and possibly baobab trees.
I found myself in a
rain forest (without the steam) but still green, lush and wet. I was a little disconcerted. This place was beautiful and yet not my normal 'home'. I feel that same odd dislocation now; I love the ocean but wonder why I am so fixated when it is not where I normally feel connected.
These did not photograph as well as I would have liked but the day is too lovely for me to spend more time on them. You will get the idea; I have used all my paper beads and some painted shells to add to the fibres. The leftovers were put on this bookmark - inspired by the talented (but
blogless) Jen Jones, who gave me a
similar beaded one years ago.
I think this last piece is my favourite, simple and peaceful. All of these have homes they are headed for - and luckily most to people who do not read my blog, or are on holidays.

Julie, these pieces are wonderful- from somewhere special inside- so just keep going- Love those paper beads- i have never made them. What are they coated in?
These pieces are so lush and beautiful. The colors are fantastic and I love all the images and fibers etc. I've been thinking about trying some paper beads so now I must do it!!

I know about the ocean fixation, I've had it forever, it energizes and stabilizes at the same time. Something to do with the negative ions.

And I always feel so inspired after I visit your blog. You are so creative and talented. I was wondering how you were going to use the beads you made.
The ocean has always brought me comfort and peace. How interesting that when you went under hypnotherapy your place of comfort was a rain forest. I think that is beautiful. I can picture you there at peace with a smile on your face.
Beautiful textural pieces Julie, I can just imagine how much more special they would look like in real life...colours are just fantastic!
As soon as I saw these pieces I thought they would work well with your paper beads.....I hadn't even seen that you had used them yet.
I especially love the last two pieces. Interestingly, you were speaking of your ocean fascination, I find these pieces to be very "earthy", particularly in color.

Julie - those paper beads are really amazing! The colours are so soothing. How you managed to twist that anneald - if thats what you used - so easily , is amazing. I found it taxing on my writst twisting the really thick guage one.
I love your pieces at the moment they seem to be hitting a chord with me.

Beautiful fluid pieces Julie. The ocean has always had a special place for me, not that I like to swim in it, too much sand in the bathers and seaweed around the legs for my liking...but the sound of the waves breaking and the beauty of its colours. Your pieces capture this well. Cheers!
