I am happy with this little assemblage, just a little surprised by it. Oh don't get me wrong - it reflects accurately my thoughts - and I was awake, just, when I constructed it.
I sat down last night, after a very physically active day, to play for a little while. I settled at my desk, Phantom quickly positioned himself under my chair and I got out this little tin, planning to practice some assemblage before I do Michael de Meng's class at Art Journey Retreat (about 50 days away - who is counting?). Those of you who know Michaels work are now giggling, for those who don't, take a quick peak.
On what was I thinking? I have a lovely neighbour who spends a lot of time enticing and feeding native birds. Don't get me started on the amount of bird poo they put on my house! But, she gets a lot of pleasure out of buying lots of different types of foods, for all the different birds - including fresh meat for the Magpies (The vego grimaces). Also, last night - into my head came a recent news article. An article about there being so many hunger and disease related deaths, in an impoverished African country, that people were being dumped into mass graves.
How did these thoughts lead to such a 'pretty' assemblage? Can anyone get into my head? Should I be more disciplined with my art? I think I shall simply continue to enjoy the journey. What do you think?

Funny how our hearts and minds react to things and the result of those feelings. I've never seen one of those little boxes/frames/? used like that. Very neat.
It's very good! I think it always is when to roll with it, no matter where it takes you! sometimes that in itself is "discipline."
Thank you for your sweet comment on my blog.
I've heard fabulous things about Michael de Meng's classes. Lucky you!!
If this piece is reflective of your thoughts perhaps it has to do with the comforting and nurturing you would like to do for these people. Nesting them in comfort rather than the horrors they are going thru ?
YOu wanting to turn the ugly into safe and pretty....?
Anyway , it is beautiful with healing colors.
I am taking a Michael deMeng class in about sixty days ! wo'nt it be fun to compare notes and see what we get inspired to do ?
Love , S.
Oh yes! Sandy what are you doing with Michael? I am doing his sardine tin shrine class?
And yes perhaps you are right, I do tend to want to fix the world - althought who made me judge of what is wrong is anyone's guess.
Enjoy the journey J.
I think your assemblage is a reflection of how you would like the world to be.Youve created a beautiful place for your little person.

The little tin shows love and caring, nurturing and hope. All things associated with a tiny babe. It's just beautiful.
I had to use anonymous to get this to post. Janet from Just Bee-cause

Another beautiful post and a incredible piece of art.
I agree with Janet. Your assemblage shows so much tenderness, love and hope. And is a perfect expression of your love for humanity. And your nurturing soul.
The colors are so soothing and the little brown baby nestled on his/her nest looks so at home. How did you color the nest? Love that metallic blue.
I am sure you will love your MDM class and incorporate lots of ideas into your wonderful art. Looking forward to seeing what you make in the class - maybe you could bring it to camp in June?
And I think you are on the right path with your art. Enjoying the journey is so important.
I have loved every piece of your art I have seen. Am astounded by your talent.
And blessed by your heart.
Thank you all.
Dotee, I put a good squirt of acrylic paint (the blue) in the middle of the nest and then manipulated it into all the grooves with a paintbrush. When it was dry I brushed soem pewter twinkling H2Os across it. And, this is one of the nests you came me!
Thanks Julie - will definitely try that!
There's worse things than pretty. :)
Julie this little piece is like 3D poetry...
I think that what is in your head is all beautiful...and colorful and good...
Continue your journey, my friend...
Julie - I have been trying to leave a comment for a few days w/o any luck - server, etc., problems - thank you for your comment and I will try to get Boone's Animal Party on my site - have to get the scanner up and running - I love your little assemblage - sweet and full of love and isn't that what counts most? - xox eb - come and visit again soon.
I can't get in your head tonight although I do know you have a kind and loving heart......but your assemblage piece is fantastic! I am so envious of you being able to take DeMengs class. He does have a book coming out in May that I preordered on Amazon. There are so many things to learn out there I wish there were classes closer to my area.
I will be anxious to hear what you learn and what you produce from the class.
XOXO
Lisa
